Be Careful of Trademarks – Verizon Wireless Gets 33.2 Million Dollars!

Verizon Wireless claims to have won another law suit for 33.2 million dollars against San Francisco Company, OnlineNIC Inc.

Apparently according to the lawsuit OnlineNIC Inc. registered 663 domain names similar to Verizon’s trademark name and others similar only to achieve receiving traffic and spoofing visitors.

“bad-faith registrations” were intended to lure unsuspecting Internet users looking for Verizon’s real Web site, Verizon said.

“This case should send a clear message and serve to deter cybersquatters who continue to run businesses for the primary purpose of misleading consumers,” Sarah Deutsch, Verizon’s general counsel, said in a statement.

Attempts to reach OnlineNIC Inc. were futile.

Verizon is one of several, including but not limited to Dell Inc. and Goldman Sachs, which have teamed up to form the Coalition Against Domain Name Abuse to lobby Congress to enact laws protecting their brand names on the Internet.

Verizon has won similar cases in the past protecting their name…

Good Luck in Your Online Adventures,

    Bruce
